Network Rail

Britain's Railways Today - At Present

Since 1994, Britain's Railways have been in the hands of private train operating companies (TOC's). The government owns and maintains the track network through Network Rail, and leases out different routes in a franchise basis.

National Rail is the title used by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) to define the passenger rail services operated in Great Britain since the demise of British Rail.

National Rail and Network Rail should not be mixed up. National Rail is the promoter of passenger rail travel and Network Rail manages infrastructure, track, signals, etc.
